About ten years ago, I attended a seminar given by the
Department of Mental Health.  The title of the seminar was
“Pain in the Pews.”  The presenters informed the audience that
many of the people who attend church on Sunday mornings,
Tuesday prayer meetings, and midweek Bible study are in
pain.  They are unable to tell some of their Pastors, First
Ladies, Deacons, Missionaries, Evangelists, etc. what the
problem might be because they feel that the individuals will not
understand them.  The pain is not a physical pain, but it is an
emotional or mental disorder.  When I was a young child,
anyone who had a “break down” was always labeled crazy.
The label or stigma attached to someone with a mental
disorder or emotional break down is still the same.  There is
pain in the pews and most of the time it is not a demon.  The
person might have a mental disorder or is going through
emotional trauma.  A doctor will be unable to put a bandage on
this pain.
Through the years, people have searched me out so that they
could tell me their pain.  I have found that listening helps the
most.  Many people want to tell their story without being
judged.  Many of them know the Word of God, but they just
want to pour out what is in them to a human being.  Talking is
therapy for people; however, the talking has to be with
someone who will not repeat what was said to the world.  God
gave me this Scripture years ago:  “Luke 4:18  The Spirit of
the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach
the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the
brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and
recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are
bruised.”  I would study that Scripture and notice that God
wanted His people healed and delivered.   He wanted them to
have inner healing also.  He wanted to heal them from their
traumas, hurts, rejections, feelings of worthlessness, etc.  I
was so passionate about doing what was right that I went back
to school and obtained a BA in Psychology and a Masters
Degree in Counseling.  I have my license as a Professional
Counselor.  I want to help all people receive their healing and
deliverance.  I had been working at State Government for
close to sixteen years.  I quit that job the early part of June so
that I could work at the Veteran Administration Hospital in
order to help the veterans.  Right now, I work with the
homeless veterans.  They are in so much pain, and they are
crying out for help.  Many of them have a story to tell, and they
need someone to listen to them and pray for them.  Jesus
Christ is a counselor, “Isaiah 9:6  For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his
shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor,
The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of
Peace.”  I want Him to work through me!
Love in Christ Jesus
